Club Members Make National TeamClub Members Make National Team. Following the Nationals Championships in These camps are part of the High Performance plan that Robbie Smith compiled back in 2005. The camps are used for national team members to prepare for international tournaments, to encourage development squads and to introduce club coaches to drills and training exercises in the effort to lift the overall national standard. This year we had Isaac Smith (17yrs), James Grace (15yrs), Tarek Lakbal (14yrs), Sarah and Kata Bryant (14yrs), and Larissa Smith (12yrs). During the camp; our members endured freezing conditions and worked on high performance drills and exercises. During the Saturday evening an inspirational lecture was given by Olympic medallist Danyon Loader, who shared his experiences of training in camps developing the correct mind set to win Olympic gold. At the end of the Camp; Karate New Zealand President The below members from our club where all named: Sarah Bryant 14yrs James Grace 15yrs Tarek Lakbal 13yrs (Reserve) decision pending a final decision on two other competitors. Isaac Smith was the number one selection for the Junior under 75kg Kumite slot. Isaac however decided to decline as he wanted to focus on his study. Isaac goal will be to peak for 2011 and try for WKF in the under 21 yrs in Mid August the I.O.C. will announce if karate has made the Olympics. If this is the case the club is placed in an excellent position with the possibility of our members making the first Olympic presentation at the Olympics in karate.
